  • Description of scenario: Vessel A: power-driven vessel crossing traffic lanes
    Area: Traffic separation scheme
  • Rule(s) to be applied: Rule 10 (Traffic separation scheme)
  • Applying the Rule(s) and comments: In accordance with Rule 10 (c) (Traffic separation scheme), a vessel shall so far as practicable avoid crossing traffic lanes, but if obliged to do so shall cross on a heading as nearly as practicable at right angles to the general direction of traffic flow.
    Comments:
    In accordance with Rule 10 (a) (Traffic Separation Schemes), when vessel crossing traffic lanes in accordance with Rule 10 (Traffic separation scheme) and risk of collision with other vessel exists, vessels are not relieved of their obligation under any other rule.
